I went to the ploughing Championships. It was held in Kilkenny. My friend had a food stall in the Bord Bia Food Hall.
The menu on the day was steak sandwiches, burgers, lamb stew, pork stew and tea, coffee and milk. The steak and onions were delicious. The money I got for helping out I gave to Bothar.
The weather was so good it made the day for everyone. The entertainment was excellent. I met a member of the Garda Reserve. She was very interesting.
She told me about I.C.E. It means In Case of Emergency. You put it into your mobile phone. If you become ill or have an accident it can be used to contact your next of kin. I'm looking forward to next year.

My trip to Cork
I went to Blarney in Cork last week. We had lunch. We went to Blarney Castle & some of us went up to see the stone.
We came back to the bus & we headed to the hotel to book in. We were given keys for our own bedroom. We shared a room in the hotel and then we had our showers. After wards two of us had our beauty treatment. I had my feet done. Then we got ready for our dinner. We went out later to Cork City to go to the pictures. We came back to the hotel for the night. We had a drink & went to our rooms.
It was an enjoyable day. My feet feel soft & gentle.

Clonmel The Old and the New.
The old,
It is a shame that buildings are taken down and their history is not known. Young people will never know the history of their town if people don’t bother to do anything about it.
The first thing that should be done is take photos of old buildings and write about them. You can walk around the town and see the changes everywhere. When we were young the older people would talk about the old days and things they knew about in their town.
It was great to sit down and listen to them. That’s how we got to know about the history of the town and buildings. It is great for those people who can remember the famous people from the town such as the late Frank Patterson, Tommy O’Brien, Sean Treacy, and Mick Del as they call him.
They are lots of more good people that came from Clonmel, you could write about them all day long but I hope they won’t be forgotten. They tried to help every one they could, the same as the people to day.
And the new
The best changes in Clonmel are the roads on the outskirts of the town and the new developments. If you left the town ten years ago and came back you would see some changes. Now there are houses everywhere you go.
I can remember when there were no houses beyond the railway gates on the Cashel Road. Even the Main Guard is changed, even if you park your car you do have to pay for it. There is a new hotel in the Poppyfield. From there you can go down the bypass to the other side of the town.
There are lots of people from other Countries, I suppose it is for the best, that is the way things are today. There are a lot of people using the railway station, trains and buses are the best way of going around today because the roads are too busy and it would take too long to get from A to B.
If you drive to Dublin to day you could see what I am talking about, It is an nightmare even if you drive around Clonmel they are digging up the roads everywhere you go. There are too many cars on the roads to day, If we walked and left the car at home it would be better for your health.

A Dream Come True.
Book Review.
By Maureen
A Dream come true
What is the book about?
A book I could not put out of my hand. Maggie is like a lot of women in the world. She was contented with what she had. Maggie worked in an office. Her husband John worked in a school. He was the Head Master. Maggie would have loved children but life was passing her by. Maggie was lonely, they had grown apart. On her trip to Brighton she met a younger man. She was taken with his soft blue eyes & blond hair. Like herself he was married. They met on sundays in her mother’s flat. They had a brief affair. Her boss found out and told her husband, who was also having an affair. She left her husband. On Christmas day Maggie discovered she was pregnant and was pure delighted. It was like a dream come true.
Describe the main character.
Maggie is a married woman who worked in an office. Her husband’s name was John. They had no family. He was the love of her life in the beginning but they just grew apart.
Describe the main problem or conflict the characters have to solve.
Maggie was content until she took a trip to Brighton where she met a younger man and had an affair. Unknown to Maggie her husband was also having an affair. When they both found out they were like strangers and separated.
Tell whether you liked or didn’t like the book. Give 3 reasons.
1. There was life in it.
2. I couldn’t put it down out of my hands.
3. I just wanted to know more and more about Maggie and her life.

Muhammad Ali
Book title: Muhammad Ali.
Author: Julia Holt.
This book is about Muhammad Ali. He was the greatest boxer in the world. He was born Cassius Clay and started boxing at age 12. He was married four times and in total had eight children. Ali lost the title in February 1978 to Leon Spinks.
In 1967 he was fined $10,000.00 and his world title was taken away. He was banned from fighting for the next three years because he refused to fight in the Vietnam War.
Seven months later he pulled himself together and won it back three times.
Ali is the only man ever to win the heavy weight title 3 times.
I thought it was a great because it was interesting, because he was the greatest and, this was the first book I read.

The disadvantages of having a land line phone in the house.
When our phone rings it is like the Aintree Grand National. Everyone makes a run for it, and most likely one of the big kids will get there first. That’s when the problems start .Who ever is on the line will be treated to some colourful language –not directed at them but the kids trying to wrestle the phone from each other.
You have to move fast to try and get some harmony back in place. Then other times, the phone could ring out and no one would answer it. More than likely there would be no message on the answer machine. I thought that in having a line of communication to the outside world it was for the customer’s advantage (but I fear not).
For Example :
The only time I would get a call would be my teacher or some fool doing a survey on finance or my bank, but lately I have been getting calls on, would I be interested in property in Eastern Europe ( God ) The must think my surname is Lawler, as in ( Liam ).
My mother in –law rings at the most inconvenient of times mostly on a Saturday morning at nine o' clock, and I can tell you it is a stampede as to who can get there first to answer it.
First aid box and tissues at hand at all times.
In the evening is the safest time to answer the phone, because either the kids are too tired, are watching TV and playing play- station or are on my computer. I could answer the phone five or six times and not one of the calls would be for me or my wife.
I suppose what I am going to write next every parent and bill paying customer can relate to.
Its the illness called Amnesia, which my kid seem to get every time there is a phone bill dropped thought the letter box .When we examine the bill there seems to be more mobiles numbers than line numbers on it and nobody can recognised them , or cant recall ringing them, which we find strange because some of the calls can last up to half an hour long at the best of times.
Look I don’t mean to come across as a scrooge or a sad case but if house phones were taken off the menu I would not die of hunger if you get my drift , sorry I have to go, I can hear the phone, hopefully I wont be trampled to death trying to answer it, if so, you can use my mobile to ring for an ambulance.
Bye for now, don’t call me I will text you.
Brendan

What is the book about ?
True Stories of hardship and hope of men and women who have overcome great difficulties to change their lives and each tell their own story.
Describe the main character:
One of the characters in the book, Paul, remembers sitting in the corner of the class room with the dunce’s hat on. The teachers did their best. “If you were like me, not wanting to learn, they didn’t really care”. Later on he discovered he had serious learning difficulties. He felt in school he was made to feel stupid.
Describe the main problem or conflict the characters have to solve.
He had to learn to survive adult life without basic reading and writing. He felt angry and frustrated and because he didn’t know how to deal with this, he got into trouble with the law and with his parents. When he hit rock bottom he realized that he needed help with his reading and writing.
Tell whether you liked or didn’t like this book.
I like the book because it was easy to read. I also felt I could understand how he felt having left school at an early age. I like the fact that he made good and found a life for himself.
Would you recommend this book to someone else?
Yes I would, I really enjoyed it.

Starting back to education
When I thought about coming here, I was nervous.I wanted to help my grandchildren with home work, especially maths and reading. I gave my phone number to someone on a course and they made enquiries for me.
I was very warmed the first time I came here. I found it very interesting and am delighted I kept going. If there is anyone thinking of doing this, please do. Once you are in the door for the first time, you will be fine.

My Work Experience
My work experience is at Clancy and De Lacey, the vet’s surgery in Carrick-on-Suir. I go on Mondays at 9 am to about 6 in the evenings. I got it for 6 weeks and when I had 1 week left I got an extra 4 four weeks. My day starts by sweeping and washing the floors.
I sweep the kennel floor and wash it, and then I wash out the pens. I walk the dogs, feed them and the cats. After that I help out with morning and evening surgery by holding the animals. I clean down the table after every animal.
I take them to the operating room and tidy up after them. I wait for the animals to wake up after the operation and put them back in the pens.I like it so much I find it hard to leave in the evening.
I would like to thank everyone there and I would also like to thank my supervisor Debbie, for getting it for me and for her support and understanding.PJ K.

Book Review Bravo Two Zero
Book Title: Bravo Two Zero.
Author: Andy Mc Nab
Andy Mc Nab is the main character in the book. He was born in 1960 and left outside Guys hospital (London) in a bag. He was fostered until he was two years old and a couple then adopted him.
He joined the British Army and rose through the ranks to become a sergeant in the SAS.
The book tells the story of an SAS patrol that was air lifted and dropped behind enemy lines during the first Gulf war. The eight man unit was lead by Sergeant Andy Mc Nab.
The unit’s mission was to disable the communication lines and masts in Iraq and to destroy any scud missile launchers they came upon. Their mission was to last two weeks but their position was compromised and they were captured .
They spent the next few weeks in captivity and were subjected to the worst torture you could imagine.
Reasons I liked the book:
It is very well written and you feel that you are there with them as its happening.
It gives a good account of what this unit went through and had to endure.
To me the sign of a good book is one that you don’t want to let down and this book is one of those.

A TRUCK DRIVERS DAY
It was a bright sunny morning when the helper and I left the Depot. Our first two calls were in Mallow, we arrived at about 7.30, and there were two trucks ahead of us, there was an hour delay at the first call, and a half hour at the second.
Our next call was in Rathmore, no delays there. Half way between Rathmore and Killarney we got a puncture. I rang back to the depot for helpIt was another hour and three quarters before any help arrived. It took forty minutes, we got to Killarney we had four drops all went well with them.
Next was Farenmore only one drop there, no delays. Next was Tralee, where we had five drops, the first was on strike, the second refused the delivery. No problems with the next two, the fifth were waiting for it.
The next delivery was Dingle only one drop. On our way there we came across an articulated truck that had run off the road.
There were people all around the scene of the accident. We stopped to see if we could help, there was nothing we could do. We continued on to Dingle, only one drop there. A car tried to over take us, just as it passed us it skidded off the road. There were three people inside it hurt.
My helper stayed with them while I rang the police and the ambulance it wasabout half an hour before they arrived.
One was badly hurt, the other two would be ok.
Our last drop was Tarbert .
IT WAS NOT A GOOD DAY.

Poem
Poem by Catherine
I have a friend who’s always there,When I’m not sure what to do.
And when that friend is there for me
I’m just so glad it’s you.
I have a friend who’s always there,When I’m not sure what to do.
And when that friend is there for me
I’m just so glad it’s you.
Little Angel
I have a little angel, she’s way up in the sky, I’ve told her to watch over you, she replied ok but why. I told her I really love you, you mean so much to me, she said she’ll take much care of you, to how your life should be.So when you feel the warmth at night, she is letting you know she’s near, she’s right beside you where ever you go, she’ll wipe away all your tears.Send this on to your special friends & family you really love & let them know you love them, I just did.
Christmas
Christmas means so many things to us all. Often it is a beautiful time. A red-breasted robin walking in the snow is a lovely picture at Christmas time. It is a time of music when carols like ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ and Silent Night are sung in churches to remember the birth of Jesus.Christmas is about family celebrating together, giving gifts to the people we love. It is a time of turkey, Christmas cake, crackers and decorations. It is a time for ‘The Snowman’ and ‘Scrooge’ on television. But Christmas can be sad. There is poverty and people with no home at Christmas. Good people give up their day to help them. We are lucky to be happy and joyful at Christmas.
